Unbelievable! We just moved to Pasir Panjang village; one of the main reasons being there's a bit of character to the place, plus it's walking distance to the shops. Now all of this is going to be taken away but what real benefits will we see here? For the small businesses it's game over. Cold Storage will probably move back in, albeit with shiny new windows and wow, we might get a Starbucks. Meanwhile for the next 3 years everyone here is totally inconvenienced by the lack of a local shopping centre. I totally agree with the previous comments. From my window I can see 3 new condos within spitting distance. Why do we need any more? This is change for change sake.

This is a sad day for Singapore. I'm all for change and development in urban centers, but this sort of 'knock it down and start over' mindlessness is why so many people think of Singapore as heartless and clinical. Will these developers eventually look around at all the 'same same' condos and strip malls that no one wants, and think about all the historically interesting buildings they destroyed? Or about all the communities that used to have 'uniquely Singapore' places to gather and now have Starbucks?

I am a resident in Pasir Panjang and I can tell you that this development will rip the heart of the area. The whole reason that this location has become so popular with new tenants is because of its low-key, community feel - it is certainly why I moved there.

The Village Centre isn't quiet, as stated by the developer, in fact it is always busy. Take the Japanese Food Mart on the first floor for instance: it's difficult to get a table there even during weekdays. And where are people supposed to do their supermarket shopping if they demolish the centre? There appears to be little regard for local opinions. How does the developer know that we want "variety". Has hasn't bothered to ask any of us? The answer is of course a resounding 'No'.

Although it is indeed good news that the adjacent shophouses will be "allowed" to stay, they will lose a significant chunk of their clientele once the bull-dozers start rolling in. I fear for these small establishments that currently thrive on local business.

I'm sorry to say that this only spells bad news for everyone...except of course for the developers.

Isn't there enough development in Singapore already? The whole place is turning into one giant disneyland with a plethora of condos and a dwindling history. It's time to stop, take a look around and realise that 'new' doesn't always equal 'better'.
